AstroRad - evaluation of a new generation of an anti-radiation suit
StemRad
An AstroRad is an anti-radiation protective suit based on selective protection that has been developed to protect the astronauts on their way to the moon and Mars. In prolonged missions, radiation in these areas might damage their function and in the long run they might even be fatal. The suit is currently in the ergonomic testing stage by a NASA team in the International Space Station, in a study being conducted by the Israel Space Agency.
The second Israeli in space, Eytan Stibbe, partook in the study, wearing the suit under microgravity conditions for a variable length of time during his routine activities, assessing his range of mobility, comfort, and overall experience. Stibbe provided critical feedback, assuring that the AstroRad will be fit for use in prolonged missions deep in space.
